Splash pump - Operation: Splash lubrication systems use rod dippers that pass through the oil in the crankcase when the pistons are moving, splashing oil onto the cylinders and pistons to lubricate them. Although this method is effective, it's not precise. Parts of the pump may not be receiving enough oil. Where there is not enough oil, wear between critical components can become a costly issue; on the other hand, too much oil can also be an issue. Viscosity: Viscosity of the oil becomes important with the splash method as well; if the oil is not thick enough, it will not cling to the dippers as needed.
